Take the Sting Out Of Buying Your Engagmeent Ring Set

February 3rd, 2009

There is a lot to bear in mind before buying a diamond - particularly when it comes to your future wife’s diamond engagement ring sets. The tradition of presenting your beloved with a diamond engagement ring when making a marriage proposal started centuries ago - 1477 to be precise - when Archduke Maximilian presented a diamond band to Mary of Burgundy - and in most cases, any girl you propose marriage to will expect a ring to accompany that proposal!

The first thing is, determine how much ring you can afford. Many people stick to the ‘two months salary’ rule. This means that the ring should set you back the equivalent of two months of your current salary. Because you also have other items to pay for, saving up this amount of money can take you quite a bit of time. You might consider financing. Simply go to the jeweler of your choice and inform them that you are planning to buy an engagement ring, and that financing will be necessary. Do not delay - get the credit check over and done with, find out what the payments will be, and how much of a down payment is needed.

Now, have your girlfriend’s best friend or your mother or sister take your girlfriend out to the shops, and make sure they look at the engagement rings so as to get an idea of what she might like. Make certain that the jewelers you buy the ring from will allow you to return the ring, if that is required, or let your fiancee to swap it for another if she isn’t satisfied with her ring!

Well, buying an engagement ring can be prohibitively expensive, and it can be a real problem to a young person looking to get started on life’s journey. Fortunately, there is a much cheaper alternative to natural diamonds - cubic zirconia. In the current financial and economic climate, a cubic zirconia engagement ring could be a god send.

Or, maybe your girlfriend will like some of this celebrity inspired jewelry which does not come with a massive price tag.
