Economic information and your investments

January 8th, 2009

Want to manage your own money? Trying to grow your nest egg as fast as possible to retire early? Considering a strategy that will let you live off your investments now?

Whatever the situation, if you’re interested in managing your own investments, what you need most is good information. Even if all you want to do is keep track of what the professional money managers are doing with the money in your mutual funds, you’ve got to have good information. If you are trying to actively trade stocks, options, mutual funds or other securities on a day trading basis, solid information becomes even more critical.

The best strategy for many people is “buy and hold,” which basically consists of purchasing solid investments, usually mutual funds, on a regular basis without regard to market fluctuations and simply holding them for 20-40 years until retirement. So-called “market timing” is discouraged by most experts because of the difficulty in picking actual bottoms and peaks in market values. But if you want to maximize returns so you don’t have to wait 30 years to enjoy your money, buy and hold just won’t cut it, unless you luck into buying a Microsoft in an IPO.

Fortunately, you don’t need to pick the absolute bottom to add a lot to your bottom line. In the latest economic cycle, the stock market fell over 20% between last year and now. Buying as the downtrend started on a dollar cost averaging plan would have left your portfolio a little less than 20% short now. The market may still fall further, but buying now still beats buying in October of last year by double digits. But following the economic indicators and daily economic news would have given you the information you needed to see that the market was heading into a downtrend so you could hold off your purchases.

Cholesterol Laden Foods

January 8th, 2009

There are many foods that you need to be aware of that are laden with cholesterol. It is important that you are aware of the many types of foods for the sake of your family’s health.

A List of Cholesterol Laden Foods

Interesting enough, a sheep or beef brain is on the top of the list for the most cholesterol in foods. Makes you wanna run out and buy a couple, eh? Well, rest assured I won’t be anytime soon!! That is for sure.

Next on the list is fish oil. While there are many good attributes for it, there are also precautions that you must know about. Fish oil has a lot of cholesterol.

Chicken liver anyone? - Well, coming in as number three on the list is tasty chicken liver. I think that I will pass on this one as well. I am sure that many of us will.

Raw eggs (especially the yolk) - I am sure that there are many people out there who love the incredible edible egg, right? Yeah, I do but it doesn’t like us so we need to eat them in moderation.

Beef bi-products - Liver or tongues anyone? Nah, I didn’t think so. There are many people who like to fry up a batch now and again. If the grease isn’t bad enough, then eat some bi-products to add more to your already high cholesterol.

Canned crustaceans? - Uhm you mean as in shrimp and fish? I don’t think so. There are many that you think in your mind are very good for you. So since they are ‘good’ for you, you decide to go ahead and fry them; making them better? I sincerely doubt it. They are still high in cholesterol.

Fast foods - Well, this is definitely a no-brainer (to say the least). Uhm, maybe or maybe not, who knows. Maybe you didn’t know that those morning biscuits and sausage were loaded with all the fattening grease? Perhaps you don’t think about it while driving down the road on your way to work? Who knows, but now you do.

Pork anyone? - Did you know that pork is high in fat and cholesterol already. They are some of the nastiest animals and eat just about anything. They are full of cholesterol and sadly enough, many people fry them in grease.

There are many types of food that are loaded with cholesterol. We can choose to be knowledgeable in what we do or we can continue feeding our bodies junk. The choice is yours!

Why Should you Outsource?

January 8th, 2009

Outsourcing has become a famous business buzzword today. You can hear outsourcing being talked about on TV, written on newspapers and magazine, and spoken by businessmen and other personalities. Of course, you need to know what outsourcing is just in case someone from a party starts talking about it or start to ask you about it. To have an idea what outsourcing is, outsourcing is the process of hiring or contracting another company or person to do a particular business function. Today, almost every business organization or group has started to outsource in one way or another.

While it is true that outsourcing is a business practice that has been done long ago, it is getting more popular and is slowly becoming a trend in large scale enterprises. Before, the process that is being outsourced is typically considered as process non-core to the business. Let us say, for example, a financial company will outsource landscape services and janitorial services to a company who specializes in these kinds of work. The company will outsource these functions since they are not part of the company’s strategy and specializes. However, things have changed today. Today, companies hire third-party providers to perform significant and core operations of the business. A company today will outsource major business functions to third party service providers.

Outsourcing today is used by many companies and businesses. In fact, experts say that ever since work and process specialization has existed, companies have long started to employ outsourcing functions and let third-party companies perform business processes such as data entry, encoding, billing, recruitment, payroll, and many more. Currently, outsourcing takes many forms. Business organizations hire service providers and third-party companies to handle certain business processes. From narrow business functions to whole operations, companies who outsource trust an entire operations unit to outsourcing companies who specializes in different business operations. Today, the most common forms of outsourcing are business process outsourcing (BPO) and information technology outsourcing or ITO.

The process of outsourcing is different from company to company. More often than not, the decision to outsource a specific business process is considered to be strategic and top management level decision and normally requires board approval. While it is true that outsourcing will lead to long run cost efficiency, it is still very expensive to outsource. It is a big decision to make for large scale enterprises since the directing of a business function to a third party service provider includes not only big expenses, but also the transfer of people and the sale of some company assets to the third party outsourcing company. Some companies even seek the advice of outsourcing consultants to lend a hand in decision making and service provider evaluation.

If you want to know more about outsourcing, you can read a number of articles online or simply open the business section of your favorite magazine or newspaper. Outsourcing has been done for a long time now and it is certainly here to stay. As long as there are companies who will outsource and as long as there are third party service providers willing to carry out the business functions, outsourcing will thrive and will help many businesses grow

Investor Websites

January 8th, 2009

As a real estate investor it can sometimes be tough to find motivated sellers. Even with the bailout actions of the government, property values continue to fall and competition is making it challenging for investors.

Thanks to a sagging economy finding motivated sellers is not difficult. There really isn’t. How do you get them calling you?

There is no questioning the power of the internet for finding motivated sellers. Certainly, there are virtually scores of businesses hocking lists of motivated sellers. What I’m intimating is a website that an investor controls and owns. Basically, a motivated lead funnel, or website, that you own.

So how should you execute such a solution? It starts with an excellent web presence. It must go far in showing you as a serious business with sufficient capital and knowledge to solve the problems of motivated sellers. It should illustrate that you have solved dilemmas for other motivated sellers. You’ll want to use convincing copy writing techniques to convince your visitors to want to contact you. It should contain avenues for them to submit their property details and contact information to you.

The first step is to create an excellent visual design or pay a graphic designer to do it for you. Or you could substitute a template that you’ve customized. Making something from scratch or buying a template from a store will require coding competence. You must have capital to hire someone. Your time is valuable so you should determine what it’s worth. Should you allow yourself to make $20 per hour to create the solution yourself? Do you have more time than money?

Happy customer testimonials should be littered throughout. Use your offline credibility kit and migrate it to an online fashion. If you don’t have actual numbers and real quotes get them. You should also consider audio testimonials. There is nothing more convincing than a satisfied customer.

Use convincing sales copy to prod your visitors to complete your online forms. It’s no secret that Dan Kennedy is a great person to emulate when writing your copy. He’s a proven professional when it comes to copy writing. Get his book called, The Ultimate Sales Letter, and read it cover to cover. Then write each page of your website ending each one with a call to action.

Lastly, include a slew of strategically placed lead generators. These are forms online that your visitors fill out. Property information and contact info should be secured on the forms. Some database programming here is necessary to link the form fields to the database records.

Now that your site is live the last step is getting motivated sellers to see it. Ads on Yahoo, Google and MSN can be an effective way to do this. You can accomplish this with SEO and paid advertising. When you start getting visitors you may discover that you need to modify your content. If the visitors are not converting to leads as well as you would expect then rewrite your content or rearrange how the copy is displayed. I’ve discovered that you can increase your conversion rates with a squeeze page.

You’ll be able to use paid listings and SEO to gain sufficient traffic to capture motivated sellers on your website.

Cool Gadgets And Services

January 8th, 2009

Electric cars seem to be getting a lot of press lately. Recently, Tesla’s electric car was featured on Top Gear. The car has very good performance and can last a reasonable distance before needing to be recharged. With a price tag of around $100K, though, it definitely isn’t cheap. You can always try doing an electric car conversion on your current car, but this will require a lot of work and time. Also, since gas prices have dropped a lot in the last few months, the idea of an electric car isn’t as appealing compared to when gas cost $4/gallon. Still, the Tesla roadster is a pretty sweet looking car, and electric cars have a number of other advantages too.

Another gadget that’s becoming more and more popular by the day is the Apple iPhone. The problem is that it is locked on to AT&T as the service provider by default, which is why people are searching for ways to unlock iphone. This way, you can use a different service provider. There is lots of cheap software on the internet that can unlock your iphone.

Finally, another cool thing that has been popular for a while now is the ability to lookup someones phone number. A reverse phone lookup will give you the name, address and more of the owner of the phone number you enter. There are a few online services that can lookup phone numbers for you, and they typically have millions of numbers in their database (so you can be fairly sure that they’ll have details on the number you’re looking for).

The Future of Virtualization: Where’s Desktop Virtualization Headed?

January 7th, 2009

While the promise of desktop virtualization is compelling, delivering it can be somewhat complicated. The barriers to adoption differ slightly by audience. Technical decision makers, many of whom have worked with other such technologies in the server or storage area, view desktop virtualization as “core” technology for the future, but are often wary to adopt it on the desktop due to concerns of product/solution maturity. Yet desktop virtualization is a means to keep businesses lean and sharply focused.

With so much uncertainty in the global marketplace and enterprises scrutinizing IT budgets more than ever before, hardware and software purchases need to be as strategic as possible. Many of these companies have turned to virtualization to stretch IT dollars and lower their technology costs. Companies are already realizing the benefits of storage and server virtualization to dramatically reduce the amount of hardware, power, space and administration. Another emerging virtualization application is in the management of desktops. Desktop virtualization offers a tremendous cost advantage for enterprise IT.

Desktop Virtualization Today

In light of the fact that users are becoming more mobile, applications are becoming larger, the prospect of touching every desktop to install, configure, and update apps on end-user systems can be daunting. Users, on the other hand, increasingly demand that their PCs run as fast as possible, both online and offline while being ensured that their computing environment is secure.

Desktop virtualization aims to separate the workspace (an end user’s applications, data, and settings) from the architectural layers below it and enables new management & deployment choices for Enterprises. The benefits of desktop virtualization couldn’t be more compelling:

* Virtual desktop enabled deployment can reduce up to $2,800 (includes representation of approximately $1,200 in hardware/software costs) and elimination of most ongoing support costs [Gartner Total Cost of Ownership report - August 4, 2008].

* Extends PC life up to seven years

* Added benefits of disaster recovery, security and agility

* Desktop computing delivered anytime, anywhere and in a secure and controlled environment.

At RingCube, we’ve seen everything from Fortune 1000 firms to small- and medium-sized businesses in every vertical imaginable from banking/finance to call center providers, higher education and technology businesses thrive with desktop virtualization in terms of dramatic cost savings on managing desktops, centralized management for secure computing and supporting business continuity.

Barriers to Desktop Virtualization Adoption

While the promise of desktop virtualization is compelling, delivering it can be somewhat complicated. The barriers to adoption differ slightly by audience. Technical decision makers, many of whom have worked with other such technologies in the server or storage area, view desktop virtualization as “core” technology for the future, but are often wary to adopt it on the desktop due to concerns of product/solution maturity. Perceived complexity of management, provisioning, backup, and application support are key considerations for this audience, as are the security of applications, data, OS, and the target PC itself.

Savvy desktop operations managers are also concerned about OS and application licensing issues, which are often overlooked. Some solutions, including hosted virtual desktops, come with very large storage costs, which are required to maintain each user’s individual environment. Finally, some solutions are only truly available to users while they are online, which limits their use by the very mobile professionals that drive the requirement.

Business decision makers, on the other hand, use desktop TCO as the key driver around desktop virtualization. Many virtual desktop solutions have a significant upfront capital outlay, which is particularly true in the case of hosted virtualization approaches which require servers, storage and delivery mechanisms. It is often difficult to justify better TCO compared to “status-quo” desktop/laptop solutions, when faced with such a large upfront cost. Business leaders are reluctant to invest heavily in desktop virtualization prior to the resolution of cost, licensing, and technology maturation issues.

What to Look for in a Desktop Virtualization Solution

There are very cost effective desktop solutions available and when evaluating desktop virtualization solution, it is important that the solution provides users with a familiar desktop experience while increasing user productivity, lower desktop management costs and eliminate the performance and resource overhead of legacy virtualization technologies. It is also imperative that users have flexibility of where they can utilize their virtual desktop (i.e. at home, on the go, at a customer site, online, or offline).

When users begin their session in their virtual workspace, it should transform their PC into their personalized workspace and have full secure access to files, applications, settings just as if they were at their own PC. Applications that utilize rich multimedia, 3D graphics, and streaming audio/video should not suffer in the virtualized desktop environment.

Furthermore, the quality of the virtual desktop experience should neither be dependent on the available bandwidth, average latency, packet loss of its network connection nor should PC drivers, printers, and various peripherals no longer work once the desktop is virtualized.

Desktop virtualization should not only lower desktop management costs and increase control for IT administrators but deliver a high-performance desktop experience anytime, anywhere that increases the agility and productivity of the enterprise workforce.

The Future Promise of Desktop Virtualization

The future market for desktop virtualization suggests a compelling opportunity for virtualization vendors and cost conscious customers of virtualized desktop solutions. IDC predicts that desktop virtualization will amount to a $2 billion market by 2011. Gartner predicts that a target market of 660 million PCs will be virtualized in that same time period.

There are three things I predict for 2009:

1. There will continue to be uncertainty in the global marketplace.

2. Virtualization will continue to be in demand, particularly in the enterprise.

3. Successful organizations will deploy desktop virtualization solutions and reap the benefits of cost savings, increased business agility, centralized management, and secure computing for employees, partners, and customers.

I believe desktop virtualization is a means to keep businesses lean and sharply focused and there are no barriers to the types of businesses that can take advantage of this powerful, cost saving solution.

Global Warming Means Fleas Around Longer

January 7th, 2009

Because the warmer seasons are lasting longer, many places in the Northern Hemisphere are having problems with fleas. It used to be that many cities and states were too cold for fleas or, a least, they disapperad in the wintertime. But due to Global Warming, flea season is now year round in many new places.

Are you and your pets being made miseable by fleas? Here is some basic information about fleas to get you up to speed on this problem.

Identification and Important Facts about Fleas - Fleas not only cause an itchy problem for you and your pets; they also can pose a number of health problems if a flea infestation is not kept under control. You know if your pet has fleas by the incessant scratching and biting on their coats and skin. If they scratch and bite enough, the skin will break open, inviting infection. The same principle follows when you are bitten by fleas too. Do you know how to recognize flea bites and the pesky critters themselves?

Description of the Flea - Fleas are very small, usually no bigger than 1/16 of an inch. They are dark in color, usually a reddish-brown, with a flat body. Fleas have no wings but the body is covered with tiny spines and they have long legs perfect for jumping. There are four stages of the flea’s life cycle: the egg, larva, pupa and the adult, capable of biting. One single flea is capable of laying several thousand eggs in its lifetime – the reason why flea infestations can occur so quickly!

A Few Facts about Fleas - Fleas love warmer weather as it is easier for them to survive and reproduce. In fact, in southern regions and newer place, fleas procreate year-round. Over 90% of fleas experience their life stages in the environment of a pet or other animal, rather than the pet itself. For the most part, animals are affected by only the adult fleas that have the mouth for biting and the legs for jumping.

When fleas are a problem in a particular pet, not just the pet should be treated. Obviously the eggs, larvae and pupa of the flea have been laid around the environment such as the immediate yard, rugs inside the home, animal beds, furniture and even curtains, bed linens and anywhere else the animal has roamed. Killing just the adult fleas is not enough. Treating the entire pet environment is necessary to kill the fleas in the other three stages of development.

Flea allergy dermatitis, tapeworm and anemia may result in pets affected by fleas. All three can severely compromise the health of your pet if left untreated. Fleas are easy to treat but with more aggressive cases, you may have to do it several times. There are plenty of effective topical treatments for the pets themselves but you may also have to treat the yard as well as the home with a fogger that will kill the eggs, larvae and pupa that will eventually hatch into adult biting fleas.

Once you can get a flea infestation under control, the preventative maintenance is a breeze. While you or your pets can definitely get fleas from other sources, you cannot control those areas. You can only control your own (and your pet’s) environment.

Real Time MLM Leads Can Give You Explosive Business Growth

January 7th, 2009

How Real Time Leads Can Change Your Business If you have ever looked into buying MLM leads online you have probably heard of ‘Real Time Leads. You have probably also noticed that they are more expensive than many of the other types of leads out there. There is a reason for that. Real Time Leads have the ability to change your MLM business.

A Real Time Lead is a form of MLM leads that allows you to know when someone has shown interest in learning about a home based business opportunity - in real time. The moment that they provide their contact information and request that someone contact them with information about a home based business you are sent their MLM lead information. I know what you’re thinking… “So What? Why is this so important?”

A real time lead is up to 100 times more likely to enroll in your opportunity if you call them right when they request information. This is when their interest in a home based business is the highest that it will ever be, and they are already in ‘buying mode.’ By calling your Real Time Lead right away you may even get in touch with them while they are still on your website. They get the feeling that they are involved and important enough for you to call them right away rather than being put off until later. “So, how does this differ from other fresh leads?”

Simply put ‘the early bird gets the worm.’ No matter how early you get to your MLM lead you are always second to the person who got there before you. In the case of home based business leads you are on the clock. For every second that passed between the time when your Real Time Lead requested to be contacted and the time that you made the call you have lost a portion of their interest. They have moved off of your site and became distracted by another thought. The rest of their life reared its head and they had to run off to do an errand to cook a meal for their children.

All of these things place your opportunity on the ‘back burner’ in their mind. Letting your opportunity lose focus also means that it loses importance in the mind of your MLM lead. No matter how fresh your lead is it isn’t going to be able to provide the instant response that a Real Time Lead can provide. Your response time can make all the difference when dealing with your home based business leads, and that is where Real Time Leads have the advantage. “What if I go away for a weekend - will I lose the leads that I paid for during that time?” This depends on the MLM Leads Company that you are dealing with but many MLM Companies allow you to ‘pause’ your leads until you reactivate your service. When you are looking for a company that provides Real Time Leads you should always look for a company that only charges you for the leads that you actually get.

If your MLM leads campaign is paused you shouldn’t be billed because leads aren’t being sent to you. If you have never used the power of a Real Time Lead to accelerate your business I would recommend that you give it a try. When it comes to MLM leads there really isn’t anything more powerful than a home business lead provided in real time. Jenny Craig

January 6th, 2009

When it comes to popular diet programs on the market today, one of the most well known is Jenny Craig dieting plan, especially since it has been made popular by so many celebrities. However, you may be wondering if it is a diet that works on more than just celebrities today. Well, let’s take a look at this diet, who it works best for, all the pros and cons, the foods you get to eat, and how it is viewed by the medical community. Then you’ll be better equipped to make a good decision on whether this is the right diet choice for you needs.

Jenny Craig Overview

The Jenny Craig diet has been around for some time and it started out in the early 1980’s in the country of Australia. It wasn’t until 1985 that it finally came to the United States. There are various levels of this system. The first one teaches you how to eat small portions of the food that you want, then later you learn how to increase your energy levels. Last of all, you learn to balance out the nutrition in your life to make sure that you lose the weight and keep it off. Different types of support are offered, including telephone support or you can even go for online support, or visit the offices for support in person.

Who it Works For

This is a diet program that works for people who like the ease of not having to cook for themselves. It also is excellent for those who need a bit of extra support to lose the weight. However, people who are not a fan of meals that are pre-packaged will probably not be a huge fan of this weight loss program.

Pros and Cons

Jenny Craig comes with various pros and cons just like any other diet. However, you have to take a look at them to decide if you are happy with the list of pros and cons that you find. Here are some of the pros and cons of using this diet to try to lose weight.

- Pro #1 - Food is Already Prepared - One great pro of going on Jenny Craig is that the food you are going to eat is already prepared. The foods are delivered right to your door, so you don’t even have to prepare your food anymore. Many people love this because it takes the hassle out of trying to cook healthy foods.

- Pro #2 - The Plan is Easy to Follow - Another pro is that the Jenny Craig plan is really easy to follow as well. There are no points to remember and you won’t have to worry about counting carbs or calories either, which makes it easy for you when you are trying to lose weight.

- Pro #3 - The Diet is Balanced - The diet is a fairly well balanced one as well, which is another pro. You get fruits, meats, vegetables, and more, so you won’t feel like you are always being deprived.

- Pro #4 - You Get Personal Coaching - Personal coaching is what many people really love about this diet plan. You have a coach that works with you to help you reach the weight loss goals that you have set for yourself. This can be very helpful and help to keep you motivated and on track as you work on losing weight.

- Con #1 - It Can Really Get Expensive - Of course there are some cons to this diet as well, and one of the main ones is the expense. Since you have to buy the foods from Jenny Craig, it can get very expensive fast. You have to buy all your meals and even your snacks from the company, and they are not so cheap.

- Con #2 - Eating Out is Difficult - Eating out can get difficult as well when you are on this diet. You are not allowed to eat out and you definitely won’t want to cart along your little Jenny Craig meal and ask someone at the restaurant to heat it up for you.

- Con #3 - Refined Carbs are High in this Diet - Another con is that the refined carbs in the Jenny Craig diet are quite high, which is really not great if you are trying to keep the pounds off.

Foods to Eat

When you are on Jenny Craig diet, you only get to eat the meals that you purchase from Jenny Craig. While the meals usually have a nice variety, you may get tired of eating these prepared meals all of the time. It can get boring constantly eating out of a box, so many people are not thrilled with this option.

Opinions from the Medical Community

While people in the medical community feel that the portion sizes are great and that learning portion control is great, many wonder if it will last once people are no longer eating the meals that are not prepackaged for them. Also, people feel that people don’t get the enjoyment they should out of eating, which means that this diet can be hard to stick to. Once people go back to eating normally, it can be difficult to keep eating the right way.
